Executive Board Meeting Notes 11/3
Executive Board Minutes November 3rd, 2025, The meeting commenced with a warm welcome by the Assistant Secretary, Michael Sill.
Key Decisions and Updates:
Approval of Minutes: The previous meeting’s minutes were approved without objections, allowing the board to focus on the agenda ahead.
Staff Director’s Report:
Sill expressed gratitude for the successful Teacher Union Day and outlined important upcoming events:
Staten Island Parent Conference: Set for November 8th at PS 29
Queen’s Parent Conference: Scheduled for November 22nd.
Protecting Immigrant Community Workshops: These will be hosted in Manhattan on November 12th and in Queens on November 13th.
Staten Island SRP Celebration: To take place on November 14th at the Staten Island Borough Office.
Day of Action and Respect Check Hearing: Planned for November 13th. Chapters are asked to wear blue, send phots and post pictures of support for paraprofessionals.
Retiree Luncheon: Happening on November 18th, encouraging advance registration.
District and Executive Board Reports:
District 16 presented a successful tenure workshop led by Miriam Quillis, applauded for its substantial participation.
Richmond Pre-K Centers, District 31 faced significant challenges with leadership under Dr. Joy Abrams, prompting a 96% vote of no confidence due to ongoing safety and rights violations. Their advocacy efforts were recently acknowledged with the Eli Trachtenberg Award.
District 20 reported an engaging tenure workshop attended by around 200 members.
District 23 highlighted positive community involvement in recent events.
Queen’s UFT celebrated a successful inaugural Halloween party with strong member turnout.
Updates on Legal Matters:
Carl Cambria provided a critical update on the ongoing lawsuit concerning health insurance
provisions. The lawsuit, filed by “Hands Off My Care,” challenges the establishment of the NYCE-PPO plan. Cambria reassured members of strategic legal responses and ongoing commitment to safeguarding health coverage.
