The Paraprofessional Chapter Chooses Unity!
Para Special Election Update from Chapter Chair Priscilla Castro
The results are in and the message from the UFT Paraprofessional Chapter is clear: Paraprofessionals choose Unity.
In this special election, members chose the Unity Caucus candidate for all four paraprofessional leadership positions. Betty Checo, Undrea Polite, and Dr. Renee Freeman were each elected unopposed, while John Kamps won a decisive victory for First Vice Chair.
Election victories, however, are not the finish line. As John Kamps reminded members throughout the campaign, “Winning an election is an opportunity to continue doing the work.”
The fight for the Paraprofessional Respect Check continues. As preparations begin for the next round of contract negotiations, improving paraprofessional pay and strengthening the economic security of our members will remain the top priorities.
The Unity Team is in place, so let the work continue.
