John Kamps: Experience at Work
In a significant win for paraprofessionals, the Union recently prevailed in an arbitration case involving three paraprofessionals who had been improperly denied per session opportunities that, under seniority rules, should have been awarded to them.
With more than 25 years of experience as a paraprofessional and a deep understanding of the paraprofessional contract, Kamps explained to the arbitrator the significance of per session opportunities for paraprofessionals, especially senior employees nearing retirement. He testified that these positions are limited, highly competitive, pensionable, and awarded according to contractual seniority provisions.
