On June 2, 2026, Tom Brown, current TRS Board Chair and UFT Assistant Treasurer, was officially declared the winner of the Department of Education’s Teachers’ Retirement System Trustee election, earning another term. This victory was the culmination of months of organizing and member engagement. On February 9, over 900 Unity Caucus members voted unanimously to endorse Tom Brown, recognizing his outstanding record as a chapter leader, pension consultant, UFT Assistant Treasurer, and TRS Board Chair. That support was later reinforced by endorsements from both the UFT Executive Board and the Delegate Assembly.
Endorsements alone, however, do not win elections. Unity members made the difference by talking with colleagues, encouraging participation, and educating members about the importance of the TRS Trustee position and why Tom Brown was the right choice. Throughout the campaign, Brown continued the work that has earned him the trust of members across the city, visiting schools, leading pension seminars, and fighting every day to safeguard the pensions our members have earned.
Tom Brown’s decisive victory is a testament to both his commitment to UFT members and the strength of the Unity Caucus when its members work together toward a common goal. The campaign not only resulted in the election of an outstanding TRS Trustee but also built on the momentum of recent union elections, demonstrating once again that informed, engaged members are the foundation of Unity’s success.
