Currently serving as the UFT Assistant Treasurer and Chair of the TRS Board, Tom has built a reputation as a trusted advocate who always puts members first.

As a Spanish teacher for 29 years and a UFT chapter leader for 18 years, Tom understands firsthand the challenges educators face both in and out of the classroom. His commitment to serving members led him to begin working in the UFT Pension Department in 1997, where he developed the expertise and leadership that continue to benefit UFT and TRS members today.

For the past 12 years, Tom has been our “watcher on the wall” on the TRS Board. His leadership and dedication have helped secure meaningful pension reforms and protections that directly benefit TRS members, including:

• Five-year vesting

• Reducing the Tier 6 final average salary calculation from five years to three years

• Auto-enrollment for paraprofessionals

• Chapter 551: BERS to TRS transfer

• Pension credit for discharged LGBTQ+ veterans
