Why I support Unity
"Our Unity Caucus is composed and led by people who are diverse in all ways, just like our membership. Unity Caucus seeks to bring very different people together..."
When I first became a chapter leader I didn't know anything about union politics. I know in my school I had very conservative, and also very liberal members. Our staff was also becoming more and more diverse in many different ways. My District Representative then, Rona Freiser, invited me to join the Unity Caucus, because its goal as she explained to me, is to bring people together, even when they are at the opposite ends of the political spectrum. Our Unity Caucus is composed and led by people who are diverse in all ways, just like our membership. Our Unity Caucus seeks to bring very different people together, because we have so much more in common than differences. In my opinion, over the last decade, we have been living in a world where outside forces have attempted to make our differences even more extreme. Where these extremists have attempted to infiltrate our union and force our leadership to be at odds with many of the members they serve. I am thankful that our Unity Caucus seeks to bring us together rather than tear us apart.
